Base Compensation

FLSA OT (29 U.S.C. §207): non-exempt employees must receive 1.5× regular rate for hours over 40/week. Many healthcare workers are exempt from daily OT (California: OT after 8hrs/day). Shift differentials stack on top of base rate and are included in the "regular rate" for OT calculation under 29 CFR §778.207. Source: 29 U.S.C. §207; 29 CFR §778.
Federal FLSA = 40; CA = 8/day
